Many organizations are turning to robotic process automation to eliminate tedious tasks, freeing corporate workers to focus on higher value work. But RPA requires proper design, planning and governance if it’s to bolster the business, streamline enterprise operations and reduce costs.

While some see RPA as a mere rule-based automation tool, many are yet to realize it is the path forward route to intelligent automation via machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) tools, which can be trained to make judgments about future outputs.

Some benchmarks predict that the automation and artificial intelligence will reduce employee requirements in business shared service centres by 65 percent as soon as 2020 and more than 40 percent of large enterprises are expected to adopt RPA as tool in their automation strategy.

While there are many leading automation tools such as UIPath, Blueprism and Automation Anywhere are available in the market, SAP has introduced their own Intelligent Robotic Process Automation tools to help customers actively embed RPA in their digital journey.

What SAP Intelligent RPA does?

Design process automation with the Desktop Studio by creating end-to-end scenarios. Import these scenarios into the cloud Factory powered by SAP Cloud Platform to configure and execute them with Agents.

Agents running on workstations can work in multiple modes i.e.

  • Digital Assistant (Attended Automation) – requires user intervention at various levels and steps
  • Digital Worker (Unattended Automation)– condition-based automation without user intervention

Key Features:

  • Desktop-based process automation design.
  • Integration of third-party technologies.
  • Cloud-based Orchestration.
  • Cloud-based Monitoring and Dashboarding.
  • Centralized package distribution.
  • SAP Cloud Platform security.
  • Visual Debugger for process automation.

Pricing

Priced based on subscription or cloud credits, typically “Transactions in blocks of 1000”. The more quality you licence on a recurring basis, the more favourable the pricing is expected to be.

Transaction is a single run of a script created using RPA.

Since it is always a subscription-based offering, you can subscribe to the number of transactions you anticipate to use on a monthly basis. These transactions are to be used within that subscription month & are not carried forward to the next month. Hence, choose wisely considering your average & peak time usage.

How do we use?

SAP will provide pre-built automation scenarios for SAP products, while customers can build their own scenarios on a need basis.

While building Intelligent RPA scenarios, keep in mind that you shall consider a combination of Interactions using Conversational AI, Automation using Bots and consider opportunities for continuous optimization via machine learning.

Typical Access Modes

  • Developer – codes / records the script using IDE (Integrated development environment) installed on the desktop and generates a ZIP file. This ZIP file can be uploaded on SAP Intelligent RPA App hosted on SAP Cloud Platform on.
  • User – Uploaded scripts can access from anywhere, with connection to the cloud by users. Both cloud based and on-premise agent execution is possible.
